  2. Mar 29,  · Believe it or not, the quality of the turntable and arm can even have an impact on it. I used to have an ADC arm on a Kenwood TT, the surface noise on my UK lp's was very high. I always thought it was the vinyl. Guess what, with the same cartridge, a Shure V15VMR, on a Rega P25/RB arm, the surface noise seemed like 6 to 9 db lower.
  3. Dec 28,  · Surface noise was the main reason for many of us to switch to CD's in the late 80's and 90's. And some of us learned that the price for silent background was harsh and clinical sound comparied to the analog LP.
  4. May 30,  · John Peel’s famous surface noise quote is held up as capturing perfectly the sentiment behind vinyl’s unlikely revival in the digital age. Digital music production and playback has allowed us to clean up the noise of analog tape and production techniques to a level of perfection never thought possible throughout most of the 20th century.

  6. Oct 07,  · The first new LP I bought has a great deal of popping and crackling. The music is quiet throughout so the surface noise is making it unlistenable in places. Old vinyl that I've dug out of storage plays fine (just the small amount of noise I'd expect for old vinyl in fair condition) so I don't think it's a problem with my player / stylus.
  7. Hi, I was wondering if someone could 'define' an acceptable level of surface noise when listening to a vinyl recording LOUD. Its very audible on my system and I was wondering if there was something in the setup/type of cartridge that may be contributing (I've already cleaned my records). BONUS: colored vinyl seems to have a noisier floor than black vinyl, I always wondered why this is.
  8. Vinyl will still have good luster; labels may have minor imperfections (small labels or initials, etc.) but otherwise clean. VG (VERY GOOD) Vinyl will have noticeable scratches or scuffs that cause minor surface noise, but do not overpower the music. There will be no skips. Vinyl .
  9. Jan 25,  · Vinyl is victim to a lot of noise, distortion and EQ adjustments that don't make it as accurate as digital formats. That said, it has its own charms, and are a prettier tangible form of the music. Noise is well dealt with in digital formats, and they have a higher bit count than the equivalent of older analog masters, which are equivalent to.
